Small Donations Make Big Donations for Dede Wilsey

Dede Wilsey believes that goodness must start from one’s own house. She leads by example. She donates first and then asks others to follow the suit. Willie Brown, the city mayor in the 1990’s, rightly said that she first secures maximum donation from her personal resources and then makes a request for donation from others. This unique quality endears her effort to everyone around. He noted that Dede Wilsey is more dedicated and devoted to things that she cares about. She is not discouraged by what others do or think. She donates and asks for donation. Dede Wilsey is as tough as nails. She is very straight forward and forth right. It has been for her audacity, boldness and courage to convince others of her good intention and the nobleness of her cause that she has been able to receive handsome donations from different people. Dede Wilsey received $10 million from Nan and Nion McEvoy, the honourable heirs of the founder of the museum and a few other philanthropists. Some other affluent people donated $1 million. Likewise, 7,000 people gave more than $1,000 while the San Francisco school children contributed their paltry pocket money and made significant sum for the museum.
